possible fert burn?

hokay, so here is my big problem,

dont know whats going on with my babies, my gut tells me fert burn, but I have only given them horse manure tea so it shouldn't burn the roots. pics are up on my flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/50922369@N05/4680900280/in/photostream/

the new growth is yellowing between the veins with some leaves getting brown and curled on the edges. I gave them a hit of manure tea a week prior to these pics being taken. I grew these guys in pots for a year prior to planting them in the dirt. what gets me is that the old growth is dark green and lush while the new growth is sickly.

Please help my babies!

I dont think its fert burn. I think your babbies have an iron deficiency. i would guess your soil pH is too high for you plants to take up any iron in your soil. try a liquid fert that will add iron and add lime to your soil to help lower the pH.

It may sound funny but search for problems with growing "pot". Hops is in a very similar family as marijuana, and as such there are lots of people who have interest in the problems associated with growing "weed".
We, as up-standing citizens, can learn from these hippie stoners and grow better hops.
Are the edges of the plant yellow, but the veins green - pot has the answer. Are the leaves curled in-ward - pot has the answer.

Regardless of your opinion of pot, and the fact that you may show up on an FBI list for going to said websites, I've found this information to be a real help in my hops growing.

I would guess mineral deficency. See how they start to die from the exterior of the leaves moving inward. http://www.hbci.com/~wenonah/min-def/hops.htm

If you are using a natural fertilizer (manure, mushroom compost, etc.) it is really hard to burn the plants. If you use a liquid chemical or powdered chemical fertilizer that is another story.

If you have an Ag extention office close by they should be able to test your soil for pH.

DO NOT DO THIS. Lime increases pH. Add elemental sulfur if your pH is already high and your soil is alkaline. I have soil ranging from 7-8 pH and my hops have never shown iron deficiency.

My blueberries are another story! LOL!

why not just do a quick soil test at the local co-op and put it to rest. it sure looks like there is a nutrient missing in this picture.

You are probably right, based on the pictures. I had never seen iron deficiency but the pictures in that hop guide are almost identical to the OP's.

If you want to deal with Iron deficiency, local garden centers should be able to help or you can look up the same deficiency in blueberries, where it is much more common.

So a couple weeks after, and my hops are looking fantastic. a few bines have turned whitish. Not sure whats going on with that, but it looks to be isolated. i just hope it is not a virus or anything.
