Ok i'm a new brewer and i just brewed my second batch. I used i cooper no boil IPA kit now i was reading some where that the kit doesn't taste like it has enough hops for a good IPA. So had 1oz of cascade hops. I didn't boil the can of extract it says to boil 1 gal of water pour the can of extract into the fermenter then had your sugars and the 1gal of boiling water. So what i did was i added the cascade hops to the 1gal of water and boiled for about 10-15 min put the can of extract into fermenter. And then poured the 1 gal of water over a sanitized strainer into the fermenter to get out any left over hop pellets. Also i used 2.2lb of light DME and about 250g of dextrose. Did a hydrometer test the og was 1.046 so filled up the fermenter with spring water and sealed. My question is i'v never added hop pellets before its my first time. Does anyone know if this will now be over hopped? Does anyone think this recipe sounds like it might make a pretty good beer? Should i have dry hopped instead of the 15min boil? I'm just alittle nervous i might have over hopped now. Or messed up the recipe by decreasing dextrose and adding more light DME. I'v never messed with recipes anyone who has do they think this sound like a good change for the better or worse? Thanks in advance EPS

So you didn't boil the dme with the hops? 15 wont get you much bitterness, you will get flavor and aroma though. I probably would have boiled the dme with a quarter to half of the hops for like 40-60 min then dryhopped the rest. You just got a little more bitterness and a good amount of aroma. It will turn out good.Ive never boiled hops with straight water and i would have sampled it to check how it bittered.

You'll be fine pal. I've added like 7 oz in the boil and it wasn't overhopped. 1 oz of cascade isn't going to add that much bitterness, and you'll probably like the kit much better than you would have otherwise.

Thanks for all the answers that makes me feel better. And i did boil the hops with the light dme sorry forgot to mention that. This is only my second batch and i wanted to spice it up a little . Just was a little worried cause i don't have alot of experience. My first batch is still in the bottles and its killing me to not try one but it's only been 6 days. I'm going to put one in the fridge at seven days wait one more day and try it. Just to see how the process works and how it get better with time. My next batch i'm going to move on to a partial extract kit then hopefully in the future try out all grain. This site is great for new brewers too ask question and get answers to make them ease their mind. Thanks too all you guys answering rookies thanks all CHEERS EPS

you will make that kit better, good choice .start some partial kits next-steeping grains will give you even more 2 a beer.

Thanks man thats the plan. I been reading alot on partial kits and even done a little reading on all grain. I'm real excited to just make my next beer hoping i'll do a little better then the last. Just started brewing but love it i'm hooked for life i think.
