Plastic mashing thermometer

Hi guys, I recently bought a mashing thermometer which is encased in plastic (http://www.brouwland.com/content/assets/photos/013/0130898.jpg) but I'm worried that the high temperature will melt/damage the plastic (or at the very least give off flavors to the wort). Is there any chance of that?

well, it's called MASHING thermometer, and I suppose people who produced it thought of this

You have to be able to assume that the plastic casing will stand up to any of the ranges of temperature that are on the thermometer right? Otherwise it'd be a pretty useless product. I'd also assume food safety.

A melting poisonous blob of plastic would be hard to market.....not that it coudln't be done or that I wouldn't trust a Chinese factory to turn it out mind...

Yeah you're probably right, I guess I'm just being a bit paranoid

I'll brew my second batch on Sunday so we'll see how that goes, thanks for the input!
