plastic carboy

I am thinking of using a plastic carboy with a spigot for my second fermentor. Hear me out..... Once the second fermentor is done and bottling ready, then sanitize a 3rd plastic carboy with spigot and add your sugar in that and transfer the beer into it.....then its simply a spigot and beer bottle. no tubing, no beer bottle filler etc.... yes its a third step but I like the idea..... The carboys are rather cheap (14.00) Thanks for your input!

Filling via a spigot directly into the bottle will oxidize your beer as the beer splashes on the bottom of the bottle. Excellent resource on bottling is Revvy's bottling sticky .

got it. thanks! I still like the plastic carboy with spigot, but will simply add a the bottling wand to it to prevent splashing. great thread. thanks so much!

I have a bottling bucket. Its a 6.5 gallon bucket with a spigot.

I rack to the bucket from my primary with my priming solution in the bucket so it mixes well.

I attach my bottling wand with a 2" piece of tubing (ala Revvy) and bottle that way. I use my carboys (better bottles) for fermenting.

I bottled my first three batches exactly like this. I didn't have any issues.

I'm not saying it's the correct or even an acceptable way of doing it. Just saying that you won't necessarily have problems if you do.
