On impulse I bought a false bottom for a 10 gallon igloo type mash tun.

I couldn't find the parts for the ball valve, so I ordered a 10 gallon cooler mash tun online.

Naturally, the false bottom doesn't fit, leaving a inch gap between the wall and its edge.

Also naturally, I can't find a replacement. And the ball valve won't fit a toilet connector type filter.

This is what I got. What'ya think? View attachment ImageUploadedByHome Brew1416875500.423637.jpg

The false bottom isn't dome shaped from what I can see??

A deep dish aluminum pizza pan makes one heck of a good false bottom and it doesn't need to fit tight against the walls of the cooler obviously. If your dead set on stainless you could look for a dome shaped, or find some thicker tubing if that isn't thick enough?

I think your tubing has to meet at the ends or you get grains into the wort. A cheap solution is to line the mash tun with "Swiss voille" curtain material or use a paint strainer bag to help filter the grains.

Was able to to find a half dome false bottom at Hop City in ATL on my way through this morning. Guys were super helpful and sympathetic. Highly recommend them!

My old contraption is in a crate and is being wheeled to the back of a giant warehouse (a la Last Crusade) as we speak.

update: turns out if you stick this thing in a mash tun at an angle, you can pour your batch sparge water through it, breaks up the stream real nice. don't know if its better than just using a collander or tin foil, but it works.
