Ball lock is a little taller and narrower keg and is a lot more common.

Pin Lock is a little shorter and wider Keg and harder to find, but are frequently cheaper for some reason.

The components you need for hooking them up are equally available and inexpensive.

The fridge you are planning to use may be the only important factor. I need to use pin locks with the fridge I inherited. The shorter Pin Lock just barely fits under the "freezer" tray with the disconnects on it.

Functionally, there are about the same. I use both without issue. But- in my experience-ball locking kegs are way more prevalent. I prefer ball lock for that reason- but I've had nothing but good times from the pin lock too. My pin lock keg does not have a valve to bleed off excess pressure. I'm not aware if that is the case with all of them, I only have one.

Like everyone said, but you should stick to one kind. I have all ball locks kegs, over 20 and all have pressure relief valves.
