I want to put together a small west of the Mississippi blind pilsner tasting soon. Pivo will of course be featured, and I plan to track down the following:

- Live Oak Pilz
- Heater Allen
- pFriem
- Crux
- Real Ale Hans Pils
- 2nd Shift Technical Ecstasy
- STS
- Holy Mountain Three Fates

The last 2 might be tougher to track down, but I figure it's worth it for the tasting if I can do so. Perhaps I'll throw in some Nooner/Scrimshaw for comparison's sake.

Anything I'm missing without going too over the top?
From the PNW you need Chuckanut and Bouy. Upright if you can find a crowler fill of it.

Highland Park Fill Pils...very reminiscent of Pivo.

It's yours for a label

I might have to hit you up on this eventually, too. I love the name, stemming from when I drunkenly stumbled upon a Stammtisch that a group of old men were having in a small town in Bavaria. We couldn't understand a damn word the other was saying, but were all laughing pretty much non-stop.

(they were probably laughing at me)

What is an Urquell lunchbox?

Sorry. Had to.

ccbstl , ******* that Urban Chestnut Stammtisch was delicious. Pretty much exactly what I look for in a German-style Pils.

Everyone should be hunting this one down.
Thanks for the reminder. I need to grab some for this weekend.

ccbstl, have you seen cans of Technical Ecstasy in any local stores yet?

I've only seen it at the brewery, but I wouldn't be surprised if future batches make it to distro. Mostly hops and hib wit in stores so far.

EDIT: **** they are out at the brewery too

Having an early summer here in Germany, I just rediscovered good ol' Pilsener Urquell for me. Accidentally domed a sixpack while having a barbecue in the sun without getting drunk. Had to drink a couple of drams later on to make up for that.

Since it left me pretty impressed I am now iso Urquell in cans.

I'm surprised that you guys don't see cans on that side of the pond.

Lmk if you need help on STS pal. I could also get you a growler of reality Czech but I wouldn't recommend it since it will make you hate all other beer ;)

Having my first experience with Heater Allen Pils...quite hazy...smells of honey, sulphur, and noble hops. Fairly malty and heavy with a lingering hop bitterness. Unimpressed.

And then I noticed the bottle date. Damn near a year old. Holy **** this held up well.

Finally tickin Real Ale Hans Pils thanks to the generosity of jrstar96

Quite bitter for a pils, but there is enough malt backbone to balance things out. Has a lot more melanoidin character than most offerings I've had lately. Love Tettnang hops. Used to love Saaz and Czech style pils, but at this point I'm firmly in the German pils camp.

btw jrstar96 ...my girl drank all the LO Hef you sent while I was on vacation last week. So proud.
