I agree very nice handles, I am picking up a tap and die set very soon to make my own handles out of oddball stuff.

I was definately thinking of a stone for a ........stone beer

I'd love to have perlicks.

But, I'm going on two years of very heavy usage on my cheapy's and they're still going strong.

Plus, as many taps as I have, it'd be way, way too expensive.

You could get a loan. Interest rates are cheap right now.:D

I switched to Perlicks a little while back mostly for the reason no one else mentions....drip,drip,dripping!!!Always a mess at the taps.I never had a sticking prob though.

Gratuitous pic of new tap handles.

I bet when you have a full house and everyone is hitting the brew it sounds like a couple bucks fighting it out with all those handles going back and forth!

So what size tap is used for the thread on the perlick? Also, are they standardized or is there a metric for out of country and SAE for US ones?

I just ordered some new 525SS Perlick faucets and stainless steel elbow shanks from Rapid Wholesale

The picture shows the 425SS, but they are sending out the new model. They have 75 on order and 60 of them are already sold. Anyways, they also said that the new order would be priced a $ cheaper so $27.99 for the new 525SS model sounds good to me. The stainless steel shank which was a custom order was still $25.60.

Anyways, as long as this order goes well this may be a good place to go for draft parts.

Well I got the order, but was the 425SS model. I called them and they said that they would take them back but the 525SS were not due in for quite a while. So now it is decision time. do I take the older 425 model or wait a couple of months for the 525 model?

I called Perlick and they said that their first batch was great, but they got a second batch that was totally messed up with the actual outside part. He said they won't get more in for 2-4 weeks and then they have to pass inspection from there.

He said that they were going to be cheaper though and the same quality.

That could be pretty cool. Do you plan to just find a nicely shaped stone that fits your liking or do you plan to shape the stone? Around here it is a piece of cake to come up with a nice looking rock about the length and diameter of what a tap handle would be... though for some reason in my mind I picture the stone being grey and sort of jagged, most of ours are brownish. Seems like drilling the rock prior to tapping could be a challenge in patience (starting out very small and working your way up) to keep it from cracking. Cool idea, definitely would add a neat aspect to any kegerator/keezer/bar!!!

I was just planning on keeping my eye out for a stone. Shouldn't be that hard to find around here and then yeah, I have to be really careful tapping it but that is half the fun.

Yeah..I got 425SS faucets from Rapid, but that's what I expected so I don't really have a problem with that.

I have no affiliation with this guy but he seemed to have the cheapest prices on ebay (and the web in general). Contact him if you're buying multiples and he'll give you a good deal. I got 4 for $28 each with $10 shipping:

He also has a 4-way manifold that's the cheapest I've seen (too bad I don't need one):

I just received the 425SS models from Rapids as well. I was expecting the 525SS model, and in fact talked to a sales rep that told me I would be receiving the 525SS model and not 425SS. I am a little disappointed, but I don't think there's anything wrong with what I received. What's the difference between the 425 and 525 models so I can know if I should return them?

The perlick guy told me that it is just ascetics and all the internal stuff is the same.

According to the Rapids rep, the 525SS won't be available until mid-May and will cost $28.95 each. The part number in case you need it is 8P490. May be worth waiting. According to someone else who already installed them, they have a more consistent pour from start to finish (no burst when first pulling the tap). But I guess only time will tell.

Guess I'll have to live with the old fashioned 425's. Got my hands on em and like I said earlier, I am impressed with them.

I have micro matic all stainless I talked to two local brew pub brewers and they said they hate perlick and love micro matic I'm not trying to start any crap but I have noticed a lot of places that have perlick towers and micromatic faucets...Ok start throwing the knives...Pat

I don't think micromatic has a forward sealing faucet in their lineup do they?
What was the explanation for the love and hate...have any more info?

We all love the forward sealing function because we are not pouring beer every 5 minutes all day every day. The micro-matics and similar designs tend to have problems with sticking, but not when in regular use. The sticking is not an issue for a bar owner, so he may have other reasons.

An update about the Perlick 525SS. I just placed a pre-order for them from Rapids and they should be shipping early May. They were $28.99 and shipping for 4 of them was $10, so my total cost was $125 for 4 (not bad considering I was going to spend more on the 425S's). To order you can call Rapids direct: 1-800-472-7431.

*2nd Update: Rapids just called me and said they received the 525SS this week and should be shipping next week. So no waiting if you can place the order soon.

I tried to find them on Rapids website (525 SS) and cannot find them. Not sure if this is a website problem or they just haven't updated the website. Any ideas?
