One day last month I was thinking I need to fill another fermentor just to have another beer in the pipeline....
I have have a new years resolution to buy no beer for home consumption. I'm an AG brewer and I typically brew after work. Weekends don't work for me when it comes to brewing. I have two residences one for work one for home. All my gear is it at the work location. I reserve weekends for family time.
Anyhow. I wanted to make another fast staple beer. Full boil extract. I was thinking of another simple amber like my house amber. (see side pull-down) I like German Noble hops and the hybrid variety. The LHBS had a bunch of liberty. Its like hallertauer.
I assumed 4lbs amber extract, 1lb 20L, then 4 additions of Liberty @ 60, 30, 5 , 1.... A red beer with liberty, "Patriot Ale" for lack a better name.
Patriot Ale ver 1
I go to the LHBS to pick-up supplies they are out of 20L and Liberty!!
OK - Change of plans ...
I pick out 40L. I see Victory Malt... and think huh... purely on name alone. It could use a touch of that. I have used it before, but along time ago, was thinking biscuity taste. I'm like OK, grab that knowing I gonna need something else. (money is burning a hole in my pocket) I see the aromatic malt grab that and 2 oz of Mt Hood and bail.
The recipe changed to a mini PM with 4lbs amber extract, a 1Lb mix of 40L, Victory, Aromatic & Pale Malts and then 4 additions of Mt Hood, 60, 30, 5 , 1.... A red beer with Victory but no liberty, Patriot Ale ver 2 for lack a better name. Or should be Patriot Act Ale.
Patriot Ale ver 2
Thoughts or opinions welcome. I'm thinking the 40/victory/aromatic will be a big improvement.
