I recently picked up the Benomatic(Worthington) o2 cylinder and reg. At first I thought I would need to take it back because the o2 cylinder was so light, then saw it only holds 1.4 oz of O2. How long do do you need to oxygenate starters and buckets at low flow rates? And how long will these cylinders last? I have welding tanks but figured that the smaller worthington cylinder would be easier to handle.

I never oxygenate my starters (although I guess I probably should) but I do oxygenate my wort right before pitching. I open the regulator up at a pretty slow flow rate and let it go for about 90-120 seconds.

I get eight or nine 5 gallon batches out of each little oxygen cylinders you get at Home Depot.

This is my experience also.

I don't bother busting out the o2 for my starters, but I do shake them vigorously.

don't feel bad, I picked up 2 or 3 of those cylinders before I saw they were only like 1.6oz or so.

I've done...6 batches and my tank is still going. I don't aerate for more than 45 seconds, and not at a super high flow. you don't really wanna see the top bubbling away. you want nice slow rate. Contact time = oxygen absorption.
