Years ago when I started out on here I had picked up some corny's that had an unbelieveable Dr. Pepper smell in them. Some guys on here suggested washing with Oxyclean (laundry detergent I assumed) repeatedly till I beat the odor. It worked, well.

Now I'm out of my original tub and I asked SWHMBO to pick up some more but the stuff she got was Oxyclean with "Stain fighter". I could've sworn the orginal posters told me to stay away from that stuff, just get the basic detergent.

Is there harm in using this stuff to clean my dirty kegs? Did I miss something somewhere? Is there a difference?

my cornies all had a dr.pepper smell in them too. I cleaned them with star san when i got them, the stuffed them full of wadded up newspapers. The smell was completely gone in 3 days

I think most of us use Oxyclean Free, which is unscented and has no chlorines in it. You can find it at WalMart. I think dollar stores also carry some off brand Oxy detergent free of scents and chlorines.

Why newspaper? Couldn't you turn the corny upside down to drain/air dry?

I know, my question was since I have the stain blocker stuff already is there harm in using it to clean kegs or is there a significant reason why we use the "free" stuff. I just want to rule out personal preference as a reason for the discrimination.

Isn't the Stainfighter kind mainly for clothes and fabric? Still don't see anything wrong with it, probably just be harder to rinse clean.
