I'm looking for Simcoe hops, and having no luck.

I had to take a 6 month hiatus from brewing due to a new job that has me traveling 5 days a week. What the hell happened to all the simcoe hops??

Anyone know where I can snag some, or what if anything is a suitable substitute?

They're gone for the year, fortunately harvest season is approaching though. I managed to snag some 14%AA from 2009 off eBay fo $20.01 shipped. Was unsure on getting old hops but all the beers have been phenomenal. On the not so good side, there really isn't a solid substitute for Simcoe. If you can wait, the 2011 harvest should be out in a couple months.

I CAN wait, I just don't wanna :(

Thanks for the info. Hopefully this year will be an uninterrupted brewing year and I can buy some bulk hops from hops direct so this won't be an issue in the future. I was hoping to take advantage of Ed's sale, guess I'll have to shift gears on my recipe.

BREW ON!!

I can't think of a suitable substitute, as Simcoe are very unique. I just made a pale ale recipe, thinking I had some Simcoe stashed in the back of the freezer. When I found out that I was wrong, I used a combination of equal parts Cascade, Centennial, and Amarillo. I brewed the recipe over the weekend, and I couldn't help but sneak a sample tonight. Though there's no Simcoe in it, the flavor is really nice.

It's about time you started brewing again! You spend all that cash building you a pimped out system and it has been collecting dust. I have an 1oz. in the freezer and can't remember what I bought it for, if it helps your welcome to it.

I know!! Fortunately I love the job, and with commissions starting in October brewing will be a regular thing (if the SWMBO allows it)

The system is ALMOST there. Had a few bugs to work out when I got side tracked 6 months ago, but I think I'll have them worked out in time to do the inaugural brew on Labor Day:ban:
