I have some Otter Creek Kind Rye, that I happen to happily notice is bottle conditioned, unfiltered, etc. I am curious if anyone has happened to harvest yeast from one of these bottles before, or not? If not, I am definitely going to give it a whirl. The beer is pretty good, with a smooth bitterness, and peaches/apricots on the nose, flavor. I don't get a whole lot of rye out of this beer, but I suspect that is an IBU issue as it is some 60-ish IBU's. I won't be trying to replicate the beer when I harvest the bottle yeasties, though I will probably make a citrusy APA when I get enough to go with. I'm guessing because it's unfiltered that it's fermented the second time in the bottle with the original yeast. Any one have any information about any of this?
