Other Sugars With Starters

Do you have to use DME for a yeast starter or can you use any fermentable? I have some honey sitting around and I plan on brewing in about 2 weeks and will be harvesting yeast from my secondary soon. Can I use the honey to make a starter to save a trip to HBS?

i think the general thinking is that you want to grow the yeast in a malt-based medium... that way you're selecting for yeast that are capable of metabolizing malt, which is a desirable characteristic for yeast to be used in beermaking...
