my last batch of ale called for 4 ounces of malto dextrine in the boil for a 5 gallon batch.
on brew day i realized i was out.
would it be ok to add to the secondary after boiling in a cup of water and cooling without aerating?

The effect of malto dextrine is limited. Specialty grains can provide the same filling/rounding effect. I would not bother, besides, many brewers believe maltodextrine gives you gas.

so that's what causes hb gas:D
i thought it was just the quantity consumed:drunk:
i will leave well enough alone then
thanks for the quick reply

yeah, leave it alone. BUT, to answer the underlying question, you can add the MD at any time. It doesn't ferment, so you could even go as far as to add it at bottling time if you wante.

Maybe the fermentation starts in your digestive tract. :drunk:
