I always chuckle at posts like this, where there's a ridiculous range of "implied values" between the beers in the lists. I mean, he's got Pappy Mexican Cake on the second list when it wouldn't go 1:1 with a bunch of bottles on the first list.

I totally agree. It is out of control. BUT...I have to say that BVDL is one extremely hyped beer that met or even exceeded my expectations, and usually that doesn't happen. I generally don't trade a bunch of bottles for a single bottle, but I'll probably take a stab at this one once the hype dust (hopefully) settles just a bit.

It baffles me as to why an annually made & released bottle with around 1,200 each time goes for 3-4+ equally sought after bottles and often times are one-off's or smaller counts, etc. The $50 price tag doesn't get it close to "asking price value" either. Just dumb.

There are too many schmucks in the trading biz that just continue to out-bid each other, and then the guys with the bottle want the latest (and greatest) asking price as the "going rate". Every hyped release is now an auction and you have to match or go higher than the last idiot.

He's talking about BVDL and the other variants. Regular Dark Lord is effectively $20 (depending on how you want to evaluate the now all-inclusive ticket cost) and probably more like 40,000 bottles (that's probably off but on that order of magnitude).

As to why they don't make more than 1000+ bottles of BVDL. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Over on Facebook, someone posted "ISO: Cantillon (no kriek, rose, classic or grand cru)" earlier today.

His FT was a crowler of the De garde/Great Notion double IPA.

Someone commented "Iris?"... and he said "I'll have to wait on other offers but if it was Iris, it'd have to be Iris+... more interested in fou, lou, vig and lam"

The worst part is that these actually sell. Some dude in Boston offered me Maine Dinner for $30 per bottle. He allegedly sold a full case in less than 24 hours to locals.
