When I got back into homebrewing in September of this year (5-year hiatus) I decided to make it easy and fun by ordering an extract kit online. I have my fair share of all-grain brews under my belt but I never hesitate to brew extract when I need a quick brew day.
So I ordered an ESB extract w/ steeping grains kit from Grape and Granary (no affiliation) and when I brewed it I thought to myself that it was awful dark for a bitter.
Well, when I tasted it at bottling time I said "this tastes just like a porter." Turns out it was a very good porter! I e-mailed the shop and asked if they had received comments on their bitter kit claiming it was more like a porter.
This is the response I received:
"We have not had similar comments. It sounds like we may have mislabeled the kit. I really aplogize for this. I can send you a new esb kit at no charge.
Sorry about that. My apologies. I am glad that you like the beer though!"
Well, after much inner turmoil I accepted the free ESB kit and I just tapped the keg. It is delicious! Hats off to G&G for their outstanding customer service and delicious beer kits.
I just wanted to share the fact that there are folks who still care about customer service.
