If and when you get tired of brewing I would be happy to discuss...

It is the means to help your beer become what it was ultimately made to be, especially with a little time and an oak barrel. But it is just theory, unless you live in New Zealand.

The road to enlightenment passes through Home Depot.

The center is a refracting tower. The right is a recirculating condenser, the left a straight condenser (way more then is needed.)

If the challenge is to figure out what this is, I will have to give up ;)

Can I do decoction mashes with this?

This little beauty will produce alcohol as clean and tastless as vodka from whatever you put in it (as long as it has alcohol in it to begin with). It is electric and runs two heater coils off of 110. You could clean up after a party, dump in all the dreggs, cig butts and all and out of this pure hooch would flow.

The folks in New Zealand, where there are many of these and it is a legal hobby, have some pretty cool set-ups. I am hoping our government will see the light themselves someday. Until them we can dream and study.

a still $$

Thats what I was thinking too.... And it seems like I remember BP saying something about dabbling in distilling also. Or it could be a beer powered rocket for all I know.

EDIT: seems that BP snuck in the answer while I was posting. :)

I KNEW it was a still... nothing could be that stretch tall and not be. So they're using this in NZ huh? Some of the old boys down in the Ozarks might be highly interested... :cross:

Do they have any thechnical documentation on this thing. I'm not a big fan of high alc beverages, but I'm a curious engineer.

I do and will be happy to pull some together. It will take a little time, but if there is interest, I will gladly respond. It is really pretty straight forward, both in theory and practice. Definately more science then art but still a bit of both. A little less art dependent then brewing, but really too much fun anyway.

A friend is trying to convince me to help him run a commercial still. It sounds fun but then again, I have been down a similar road before.

I will see what info I can dig up.
