Grouchy Old Fart
So the Oshkosh corporation landed a big military contract recently and is actually hiring. They had a two-day job fair yesterday and today. I went today. They started a 9:00 and I got there at 9:15. The line was already stretching around the lot and down the street. So I got in line and waited. And waited. And waited. At 11:00 I made it all the way to the door. The line inside the building was longer then the line outside. At 2:00 I was finally done. At least I had a second interview, so I am still in the running.
All told, there were almost 5000 applicants at the 2-day fair, all applying for 400-500 entry level jobs, probably paying around $12-$14 an hour, and only 2nd and 3rd shift. That gives everyone who applied a 1-in-10 shot.
My point? Obviously things are pretty bad when you have that many people show up for a job fair. I just don't understand how people can bitch about their jobs in a time like this. At least you're working.
