Old LME

I just acquired a variety of LME from a friend from ,I think ,2006. They are all sealed in individual plastic bags. Should I even attempt to use this stuff?

No problem with that. I've used LME that was covered with a thick layer of mold.

Any old LME I have/aquire I use to make starters. Not sure I'd want to use it in my brews (to each his own), but you can make a starter and decant the spent wort before you pitch.

Mostly. Mold is a fungus, like yeast, so I wasn't worried at all. The boil kills everything.

^^^ what I was going to suggest. Might be a little sloppy, what do you suggest for that?

If it came with a yeast packet, don't use it. Buy new yeast.

Use the old yeast as nutient, just dump it in the boil

Not more messy. Just make sure you use 25% more LME than you would for DME. You have to account for the water in the LME.
