When I brewed this in early 2003, it was undrinkable. I used 8 ounces of peat-smoked grain and it took over a year to mellow. Well, I pulled a half pint this evening and the keg is feeling light. Very easy drinking, even at 10%. Has an aftertaste that's a bit of sherry, but mainly caramel.
Looks like I might be tapping the 2005 soon. This also means it's time to brew another batch, although I think I'll try more caramel, maybe some C120L in addition to the pound of C80L. Maybe some Munich.
I'm glad I gave it a chance.
