Anyone else plan to tap their keg of Oktoberfest at the same time they tap the first keg in Munich? That would be 3 am on the 22n'd for us west coasters (the best coasters :mug:)

Well I was planning to do this but seeing how I didn't' get around to brewing the batch until August, my Oktoberfest will probably be ready in March - about the same time I should be brewing for 2013 Oktoberfest :(

I did the same thing last year. Brewed it in July and called it Late to the Oktoberfest.

I was going to wait to tap my O'fest until the day (not nece-celery the hour) that O'fest begins in München, but I was too impatient. By about three weeks.

I'm going to brew one soon for my first lager. It won't be a true 'lager-it-for-six-months' Oktoberfest, but I think that I can get one brewed, fermented, lagered, and bottle conditioned in time to enjoy for the holidays this year.

Good to know the date is the 22nd. I've got an Oktoberfest lagering that I can carb up by then. I doubt seriously I would be able to tell the difference between it after 6 weeks vs. 6 months of lagering.

Six months of lagering? That seems like overkill to me. I usually lager/carbonate in the keg for 2 - 3 weeks and I'm pleased with the results. If you pitch cold and ferment cold, you shouldn't see any observable off-flavors.

Not overkill if you have the space! I make 10 gallons of Oktoberfest and one year when I had extra I tried it early. Definitely had not mellowed out enough by then. Stick to it if you can for next year! :)
