If my OG reading is higher or lower from the suggested recipes OG what can be done to get it closer to the desired OG? Thanks.
 
To make it lower, add additional water to dilute.

To make it higher, boil for longer to evaporate and further concentrate the wort... or add a form of sugar (table, DME, honey, etc.) to raise the gravity while keeping the volume the same.
 
If it is a 1.050 recipe and you read 1.054 leave it alone but if it is 1.072 or so then I would consider watering it down. :)
 
Ok..Thanks.. I will have to try the sugar next time. So just some table sugar works right? What about the FG readings?
