I was so hungover after a tasting from last Friday night, I forgot to post the pics. Huge thanks to yeoldepube for hosting AND for cooking up some SICK ribs & pulled pork. Had tons o' fun with acurtis, BenTenison, Jblaze36wv & Fill It or Spill It. We got dr-UNK.

Enjoy our beer pron!

Jblaze36wv & I cheated, and dome'd this Sip of Sunshine while waiting for the cab to take us to Sean's (no drunk driving here!)

Had to wait for Alan to get his ass over, so we sat down for dinner, which went AMAZINGLY well with the entire Abraxas set.

BenTenison randalled this Derk Lerd '14 with Unicorn Blood coffee, and it was actually really damned good.
2014-09-20015920.jpg

Tactical Nuclear Penguin, yup. The pour you see here was about what I could handle. Flavor wasn't all that bad to be honest.
2014-09-19213202.jpg

CD10, this was ******* amazing. Just so damned good. As good as Le Sarrasin IMO.
2014-09-19215510.jpg

Bliss of Absence, was really impressed with this too.
2014-09-19220923.jpg

Peleg, this was not good. I'm convinced it's an infected beer, but whatever
2014-09-19223230.jpg

Everyone goes crazy for the Bu's, but you all need this Desay L'Orange. It's dat good, yup.
2014-09-19223816.jpg

Equally surprised by how tasty Chevalier from FFF was too. All of the blueberries.
2014-09-19225353.jpg

Oude Quetsche Tilquin
, this was ******* amazing, a top 3 beer of the night for me.
2014-09-19233226.jpg

TG Naughty Temple, which led to a spirited debate as to whether this was a DIPA or barleywine (I don't care what Untappd or BA says, it's a goddamned barleywine)
2014-09-19234015.jpg

Cherry Lambic, perfectly timed to strip the enamel off my teeth
2014-09-19235310.jpg

And then...the single worst beer I've ever had, Bruery Cacaonut. This led to an even more spirited debate as to what was more desired as a beer: this or Coors Light (I voted Coors Light). You ever forget about some veggies in the bottom of your fridge? You know that disgustingly soupy rotted juice they produce? That's what Cacaonut tasted like.
2014-09-20001530.jpg

Jackie O's Funky South Paw, honestly have no idea, all I know is that it got rid of the taste of Cacaonut.
2014-09-20002549.jpg

Terrible picture, but this was a growler of OEC Experimentalis w/ Peaches, and it was delicious.

Hey, what's smarter than a bunch of hammered people opening a huge barleywine as their last beer of the night? Gratitude 2006 was yet another in the series of sick #garageaged brews that I've come up with. And again, it was friggin' amazing! Aged perfectly. In a garage. Take that!
2014-09-20012136.jpg

Kill shot (minus Cacaonut, which was hopefully buried in the backyard, never to be spoken about again)

Whew!

Football Sunday, Eagles lost but we were drunk. Win, win.
11aQhpo.jpg

Beware of the Springhouse Blood Lust (this the rum barrel variant) its turrible.
I am also 2 for 2 with infected bottles of BA Muy Bonita. Going to have to mail this bottle back to the brewery in hopes of a replacement. Cracked the wax and it sprayed everywhere. Sulfur fart foam just flying around the kitchen, perfect.

dbawdbawdbaw with the drainpour and sluggo with the commentary.

How was the carb? First bottle nearly took one of my eyes out when I exerted the slightest upward pressure on the cap. Lost half the bottle, but what I was able to salvage was fanfuckingtastic.
it had been in the fridge for a couple weeks leading up to opening it. i was prepared for a battle for my life but there was not even a little gushing.

Because Ataraxia won't leave me alone until i post it... :p;)

Seriously, though, huge thanks to him for making this happen. always wanted to try the series side by side, never thought i'd be able to get all four bottles in a single trade though.

BhnRMUK.jpg

M&C 1: Very nice start to the series. robust, delicious, full of whiskey, wood, chocolate, fudge, vanilla, & plenty of nuances. A bit of smoke & char. I'd put this a short rung or two below Damon, which i consider to be my personal HF "stout" of reference.

N1M02i3.jpg

M&C 2: Wow. My personal favorite of the series, & I would put this right on par with Damon for my favorite HF stout. Adds a smoothness that makes it seem like a slightly more refined version of #1. A little more inviting up front, more residual sweetness, a hint maple & brown sugar. Finishes like a Lindt 86% cacao bar covered in whiskey & brown sugar drizzle. Amazing stout.

YVFX26Q.jpg

M&C 3: A good stout, but quite a step down from the first two. More char & dark fruit than the others, & the barrel aging comes off a little "rougher", both in the form of mildly fusel alcohol notes & a more tannic finish than is necessary. All in all, still a drinkable, tasty stout, but nowhere near the league of the first two.

PYklyyJ.jpg

M&C 4: Infection slightly present, as there was a bit of black cherry & prune-like tartness... But I'll go ahead & blow everyone's mind when I say that I still preferred this to M&C 3. The tartness wasn't in the realm of vinegar or acetic acid, rather it reminded me of a less-tart, more mellow version of Tart of Darkness, only with a mild chili pepper kick towards the end. The chilies were almost unnoticeable at first, but definitely added a bit of warmth towards the end of the glass. I know it was unintended, but the Dark-Tart stout was actually a nice departure from the rest of the series, although this is still far down from the quality of the first two.

And of course, the master blend. (Somewhat) equal parts of MC 1 through 4. If this was an actual beer in the series, it would rank right in the middle for me. Not as great or well-defined as 1 & 2, but more complex & refined than 3 & 4.

Thanks again, Alex. Can't wait for M&C 5 :D

A couple other beers from this night, although picture snapping didn't last for very long, lol...

But in all seriousness, I guess being the only owner of the MC4 before arriving on your doorstep + proper storage meant curbing the potential gushing and infection I've been hearing about

You should have opened the BG&E with those MCs because MC2 had some BG&E in the blend (I think)

Eagerly awaiting report on Flora blueberry and Flora

good time last night with wscaffe SocalKicks LSUPT JonathanAmes

Highlights for me were the Cigar City Stouts, Nicene, Kiwi, Pride, & Ken Schmidt Mint Chocolate Stout, not to say any of the other beers were bad though. Nice to meet you Prescott! Thanks for the Florida brews!

Thanks for the hospitality Will. Everyone was extremely friendly and I had a great time! That Pride was amazing. Hopefully we can grab a couple of beers before I fly out tomorrow evening.

botanical nose and oaky golden taste. good, but certainly not worth what people are asking for it (based on taste)
I did like 3s though I'm with you. Right now, The Archer is so far my favorite from De Garde. Still chasing The Lily someday...

This happened last Friday at Our Mutual Friend with a bunch of good/new friends. Most don't post on TB, but here's some... balesfc MrCuvee Sethzilla Gene Shteiven acurtis

Standouts: The Archer, Plan Bee Precious was like an apricot in my mouth, and Grimm Bros Bookends: A Story of World Beverage, also really liked Bruocsella
