I was gonna read this but then read the last few posts and bailed. Homies. abawol01 you got me if I miraculously get one?

Disclaimer: didn't read the whole thread. FTS.

If you haven't been to OR in 6 years, than you likely weren't a member.

These last memberships stated that when providing an 'attendee name' for pickups, you were effectively putting the membership in their name. Making your 'attendee/trustee' the owner of the membership.

I think that fine print stuff was what confused some people and led to all those stupid emails and posts. Which probably then led to the end of the Keepers memberships altogether.

Just a complete shot in the dark here, but Im guessing whoever wants a membership is going to have to fly, drive, or swim their ass to Tillamook to get one.

True. I purchased my membership in my trustee's name. I guess a better way to phrase would be are they going to give people with multiple memberships from the first time the option to renew for people? I get that I bought it in his name, but de Garde clearly knew what we were doing/trying to accomplish.

I will be seriously outraged if I can't get a keepers membership from the safety of my house in my lightly stained underwear but I also want to make sure other people are shut out so that my membership has high "in your face value" and I want to point out I am not a renewing member. What is degarde going to do for me?

Wanna fight?

I heard a rumor that degardebrewing developed a new entitlement based system for gaining Keeper's Memberships. The math is rather complicated so I won't bother getting into that but just know it's similar to a sporting combine.

All applicants will be screened for various things, including:
  • the number of times you've cried when a beer ran out ahead of you in line
  • word to post ratio
  • past calls and emails to de Garde
  • references to being a deserving local online
  • hours spent in line since the membership was last cancelled
  • beer event airline miles acquired
  • brewery shirt:wardrobe ratio
  • et al.
Good luck everyone. And remember you need to put in the work, if you want to see results.

Still a little vague on the trustee details. I feel like this is the area where they received the most headaches from people trying to bend/change the rules and asking for special accommodations. If there is one area to be 100% clear on the details, it's in the trustee section. The way it's worded now, with the request for ID details in the 24-hour notice email, it seems like we are allowed to designate a new trustee on a pickup-by-pickup basis, which is actually really awesome and convenient if true.

That is how it works, and that is why it reads that way. With more help devoted to the membership, we can facilitate better service such as this. We wrote out all stipulations as clearly as we could, but I understand wanting to be sure!

That is really cool, and will probably save a lot of people a lot of stress about getting to their bottles, when they can designate a trustee who may be down in the area when the member can't make it. Hope I get in!

Wow! $260 for 8 bottles. How much was the old membership?

The Berliner one was $125 for 8 bottles, the Wild one was $155 for 8 bottles (which is probably the fairer comparison). However, the last iteration of Keepers only guaranteed you those 8 bottles across 4 times during the year and access to the release parties (which were the only times pickups were allowed, no proxies). Admittedly the release parties were some of the best beer events I've had the fortune of attending and I met some great people who have become good friends, but it was a huge pain to have to schedule at least 2 weekends out of the year to fly to Portland and make it out there (inb4 "you're an idiot, you chose to do that').

It looks like this iteration is intended to be a full membership with some fantastic perks, the most appealing of which (as a non-local) will be the ability to occasionally purchase new releases online and have a friend pickup the bottles whenever they go out there (seriously, how awesome would it have been to be able to buy bottles of the recent release of Nectarine Premiere online, which is one of my favorite beers ever?). I feel like de Garde evaluated what worked and what didn't work with the last iteration and they've taken steps to put together a program that should address a lot of the problems/issues in the past and hopefully make it a great experience for the members.

tl;dr $260 is definitely more expensive than before, particularly if you choose to view it as something that only guarantees 8 bottles of beer and don't plan on taking advantage of the perks. I know that if I'm fortunate enough to get in, I'll definitely appreciate being able to buy bottles online as well as having the option to schedule a private tour/tasting (I have family in Portland now so I'm sure it's something I'd look to squeeze in when I go up to visit). Fingers crossed.
