off flavor from CO2

hey guys i took a corny of a amber ale to a party last night i brought a c02 charger thinga majig and was out of the 16 gram cartridges that come with it so i stopped at wal mart and picked up some daisy co2 12 grams i charged it up started dispensing and noticed an off flavor i had been dispensing outta my 5 lb tank and it tasted amazing the c02 from the 12 gramers does have a a smell to it anyone else have this problem?

oh yea and the beer still has a off flavor after venting it and recharging from my normal tank????

help!
 
All of the chargers I was looking at recommended food grade CO2 cartridges.NOt sure if there is a difference in packaging or brand though.
 
I can't find a link, but I seem to remember something about those particular cartridges having some sort of oil mixed in. I might be wrong.
 
d@mn... i hope this batch is not ruined its my first batch that i felt worthy of sharing with friends and i still have approx 3 gallons left
 
try nitrous canisters next time. you can usually find them at kitchen stores. You can have a little fun while your charging them;)

They do have a light 'gun oil' in them; mostly to help keep the seals from drying out in the gas chamber..... Just call your beer WD40-AmberAle
