So like everyone else I have read and brewed beer then repeated. So I had a Danby 5.8 Kegerator to use but the cold plate was pierced. I tried my hardest to fix it but its not holding 134a and oil. So that brings me to Criagslist where I can either spend 100 on a smaller Danby 4.5 Fridge and only have 2 kegs cooled on tap for about 100 or......buy a Woods 12 cu. ft. Freezer on Craigslist for $100. So I can expand if I ever do.

I will do a write up later for Thadius on the size of the frezer but it is 16.5" wide X 29.5" deep and 44.5" wide inside with the hump in the back right corner furthest it sticks out to the left is 11" and the furthest forward is 9" but its the curve style and stand 11" tall.

We that's where we start now, Keezer with a collar and eventually a coffin but for now let's keep it simple and collar it. So planning on an 2"x8" collar with a 1"x10" face. I plan on painting the white fridge black and will stain with a darker stain, ie: oak. 4 taps and shanks have been procured and I have 3 ball locks and a converted pin lock. Cool part is the freezer measures out to hold 8 ball locks with no collar and a 9th one with a 10" collar but with an 8" collar I can fit a pin lock on the hump. As shown in attachments. Also, with just 4 inside I can cold crash.

Planning on keeping the freezer able to go back to freezer if I need to one day with the collar until I can coffin it. Planning on mounting the collar to the freezer and maintaining the freezer lid/hinge configuration and mount it to the back of the collar. Simple clear silicone to attach the collar and small mild steel plates connecting the collar to the old hinge holes in the base of the freezer. So STC-1000 out the front and a Cooltron 115 V fan keeping the air moving at all times. So two plug outlets, one inside with always on power and then one recessed for the freezer to plug into. 6 way manifold with a 5# tank and reg will be mounted inside. Some chalkboard paint in the top to denote the delicious brews inside.

And some random brewing pictures. Drinking my Winter warmer while putting my Dead guy clone into the primary

That's a killer deal on a working freezer that big. I agree that if you're okay with the refurb process, then spending less money on a larger model is great.

Its really not that big but does fit a lot. Overall its 50" wide and the 22" long and 35" tall. So just a foot longer than 7 cu ft ones. I wanted the ability to expand from my current 4 if i wanted. Plus I like the 1.6 ratio in furniture.

The mail brought my STC-1000 and my fans. Waiting on the shanks and faucets to really put her to use.

Was able to do lots of cutting and fitting and then some drilling and more cutting. Need a darker stain but this is how she looks after working on it tonight.

Its tough to plan out all the cuts. No one ever talks about this. You need all of your holes and construction done before you stain. So plan out your holes and mounts for things.

Also, I noticed the lid was a little stressed from the hinges and the lid front isnt straight. trying to figure what happen and it will work but the upper lip of 1/2" from the outer collar to the interior might look a little goofy being on a curve.

After chasing leaks in my manifold for an hour I didn't get as far on the build as I wanted but I am done with staining finally.

Now need to attach the collar to the freezer. its a snug fit around the perimeter and I plan on using some flat plates to attach the back of the collar to the holes the original hinge location used.

I am just using silicone and a lot of weights to seal the collar to the keezer. I don't want to do too much permanent damage to the unit.

I need to build a a base with casters for it but for now I need it function.

Figured out the drip tray and also the skirt/dolly to move it around.

Adding up the weight in the keezer is quite impressive. 130 lbs for keexer, ~50lbs of wood, tank-reg-lines 20 lbs, 6 full kegs 65lbs = Almost 600 lbs. So the casters need to have some beef in them. 190 lbs each - 4in diameter non-marking.

WE all love pictures so here are some more. I know when I was looking thru builds I wanted to know how some of the stuff was assembled and hopefully this will help someone else.

More work done today, drip tray built with my new favorite tool ever. I have seen cabinet makers and other wood workers use a Kreg pocket hole drill jig and always enjoyed the finished products. I picked up one today and its a great little tool, really helps to hide and fasten smaller boards.

Almost finished the "cart" for it but cut a 45 degree an inch short. If only they sold 2' - 1"x8"s. Stain will come this weekend and all the finishing pieces. Plus I got the lid mounted and the gaskets put in. I will probably run a thinner gasket on the lid. No need for a 1/2" thick gasket there. The collar to keezer gasket needed to be thicker since the seal wasn't going to be as great. Cool thing is it's still modular meaning I can take the collar and lid off, take the drip tray off, pick the freezer off the cart, and then move the cart if I want to transport it some where as a unit but not all together since the freezer barely fits height wise in the 'Burb.

Finally have a picture of the back of the drip tray with the magnets.

Also I like the idea of stickers on the fridge but think it can be tacky at times and don't want to ruin the sticker forever if I but it on the freezer. So I took some card stock and magnetic tape and mounted each one along with some random coasters I had sitting around. I liek the look of them standing off a little too.
