Ok, I'm going to be honest here. I don't really care much about the other teams in the NFL. Maybe Green Bay, because I know a bunch of people who admire them and they have done a lot with a small market. I am specifically a Lions fanboy. Grew up watching before and during the Wayne Fontes era, all through the mediocrity when the Lions could hope for a playoff spot and very likely compete for a division title or maybe a wildcard spot.
Those were they days!
I'm just not excited about the coach. It's not that I don't like the guy, I just couldn't care less. Honestly, I rather doubt any person hired will suddenly take this very talented, underachieving team deep into the playoffs. I just don't believe it's going to happen. History has shown that it's not going to happen. Lucy is not suddenly going to stop pulling the ball out from under Charlie Brown.
So there just isn't any reason to get excited about a new coach in Detroit. It's not going to change anything. They might start winning more. They might even win a playoff game. But I fail to see, in 30 odd years of watching Lions football, any sign of hope that a coaching change will make the team into a powerhouse capable of winning several playoff games or the Superbowl.
Right about now, Lions players are probably considering jumping into other teams if they can. In 2-3 years they will start rebuilding.
