Woke up today and seemingly found out what happened. The rule proposal was amended before it was passed to ban pushing of any "Team B" teammate at the line of scrimmage.

The guy is a freakin slot receiver on a team with, at the time, two dominant tight ends, an emerging running game, and two guys who could sub in (Edelman and Amendola)... in addition to freakin Hernandez, for any balls Welker would have dropped.

Oh OK. I bet that video was made before they amended the rule and just never updated to show the new rule. The rule book definitely shows the amended version.

He also got rid of most of the receivers from last season, not just Welker. All of whom were vastly superior to the garbage they've been putting out on the field all season.
Belichick replaced Welker with an injury-prone, albeit talented, slot receiver who is hurt all the damn time. Seriously the guy was labeled as injury prone, and surprise, surprise, is injured all the freaking time.
I know numbers are a concept that hurt Pats fans brain, but please do try to keep on this concept:

No... what I'm saying is if the Pats had a fraction of the team they thought they had... before a TE started murdering people and 40 injuries, Welker would have been a complete and total non-factor.

And where was Welker last night? Oh yeah, dropping 4th quarter passes to help the Broncos get their first loss of the season to the Colts! Face it, the jets at their best, still need some fluke flag to barely win against a junior college team of misfits, minus Welker, their defensive probowlers, Talib, Vereen, etc, playing at their worst.

Please. The Jets were supposed to be competing for a top 5 draft pick this season. Who picked them to be just a game back in the AFC East at this point? Anyone? Anyone? The fact that they've beaten anyone is impressive given the fact that they're starting a rookie QB, lost their starting TE and RB from last season, are trotting out no names at WR, and have arguably one of the worst head coaches in the NFL.
Keep crying about how the refs correctly called that penalty on the Pats. They could have, I don't know, played some offense instead of giving the Jets the ball in OT or, God forbid, some defense. But, yes, keep crying about that call.
There's some important differences between Revis and Welker. Revis wanted a monster contract and was coming off of a major injury. Welker was a known quantity who had been well under-paid compared to his production in previous years. The Pats had the flexibility and cap room to easily take Welker at market value - at least with the numbers that I've seen floated out there. They ultimately decided to go in another, more injury prone, direction. So far that hasn't paid out. Maybe next season or the season after, it will look like a smart decision. I would not hold my breath.
Every Jets fan I've run into has a love/hate relationship with Ryan. Yes, we love the swagger and the attitude, but could the dude just shut the hell up once in a while and win some games to back it up? That's why Ryan is ultimately suited for a defensive coordinators role and not a head coach position.
Now I want to remind you all that next week you're facing a more talented Miami team. What, a what excuses, will Pats fans come up with for next week's loss?

You really think Welker would be a non-factor? Obviously he would have been double covered and what not but that frees up coverage and keeps teams honest. Plus it gives Brady someone he has history with.
Having Welker definitely would have helped. I can't say they would have won with him but Brady is definitely a QB that likes history. His players need to know where to be at the exact right moment because he is throwing to that spot and thinks you will be there. That takes a lot of practice (aka history). That is why Gronk being able to practice and him coming back was so huge. He knows where to be...though I think he needed a game or two to get back into the swing of things.
Simply put, the Pats lost because of terrible TERRIBLE coverage by the D and some not so good offensive plays. They scored 27 points which isn't bad but the offense can't win the games anymore. The defense needs to be able to make stops. Jets WRs were wide open and that just can't happen. It is turning into a passing league and to win a game you need the D to stop some of those passes. Didn't happen for the Pats. They have been fighting this battle for a few years now.

You guys keep taking the team as it is RIGHT NOW and saying, "Welker would have helped!". No sht. ANY decent WR would have helped on the team as it is RIGHT now.
My point is, when Walker was allowed to walk, there was no real reason to think that they couldn't easily replace his production with... again... the two tight ends, the running backs, and then Edelman and Amendola. They weren't replacing Welker with Amendola. They weren't replacing Welker with Edelman, so showing stats between the two/three is stupid. They were basically saying, "Given everything else we have, our slot WR position isn't going to be as important and we can cover it with a combination of other things while we focus on other parts of the offense".
Hernandez started murdering people, Gronk took forever to come back. Amendola is dead...

The Pats offered more tHan Denver by many reports. Don't say the Pats weren't willing to spend. They weren't willing to throw crazy money, but the same as Denver, sure.
I will also say the Cape is exactly correct. Before the draft our prospects for a Great receiving Season were there. The guys we lost in the offseason were not the answer.

They clearly signed Amendola to replace Welker. Amendola is a slot receiver. Welker is a slot receiver. Welker signed with another team so the Patriots signed Amedola. This isn't a difficult concept...
Amendola was signed to be a younger, less irritating to management, replacement for Welker. He has all the tools to be just as successful. So yeah, I think comparing the statistic between the two is more than fair. And enough of the "Maaaaaam Welker only has more touchdowns because his QB is Maaaaanning". You have Tom Brady as a QB. Tom F'in Brady. And Amendola has zero TDs this season. Zero. The guy is clearly either vastly under-performing or Brady isn't an elite QB in the same stratosphere as Manning. Is that what you're saying?
Both Amendola and Edleman have been playing the slot this season as Welker's replacement. Amendola has only played three games and done nothing. 159 yards and 0 TDs. Edelman has done better - 456 yards (golf clap) and only 2 TDs. It should be noted that 118 of those 456 yards (26% for those let down by the MA school systems) came in the Atlanta game and both TDs (stay with me, 100%) came against Buffalo.
Welker meanwhile has 456 yards and 8 TDs. More importantly, those 8 TDs were accrued in 4 of the last 5 games he's played.

The GM of the team is responsible for maintaining the depth chart and ensuring that there is adequate talent to overcome routine losses. Gronkowski's slow recovery was well documented, but I don't think many people saw Hernandez as a stone cold serial murderer. Letting Welker go but replacing him with Amendola was a gamble given Amendola's medical problems but still, Belichick at least replaced him. What's the excuse for the rest of the garbage lining up on offense or the lack of depth on defense? Brady can only drag that train wreck so far. Miami is going to expose a lot of weaknesses for the Pats next weekend

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on Hernandez but Welker was a security blanket plain and simple. And a pretty durable one at that. As for Belicheck's arrogance... I have no issue with that. Makes him entertaining, same as Ryan.
Yes, Edelman is a decent receiver. But Brady was desperate for new blood. He threw at Gronk 17 gd times yesterday of which he caught less than half of ffs.
TDs across different teams mean jack**** but I do think the Pats would have been more stable and won the games they won more convincingly with Welker than without. He's used Edelman frequently because frankly... It's all he's f'n had. NE, prior to this week anyway, is like the only team with worse receivers than the Jets for crying out loud.

- Welker was let go because he tried his case in the media and that's definitely not The Patriot Way. Don't wanna hear any other theory, that's the only one that makes any sense. He pissed off Kraft and Belichick, and that was that. A trip to the basement, a bullet to the head. Over.
- For the most part, and considering their manpower losses of late, the Pats defense played pretty well.
- The Pats second half offense meltdown was clearly the root cause for the loss. It certainly wasn't due to anything done by the Jets - they suck, and in a huge way. And that ridiculous flag at the end
was just the candle on the crap cupcake that the offense baked. They had plenty of opportunities to bury the Jets, and failed.
- And the offense play selection was consistently thoughtless - like McDaniels was throwing darts at his play book while blindfolded. I've seen this before - in his previous stint before he failed in the head coach slot. Most teams adjust during half time, but if there was any adjustment yesterday, it was to play stupid. WTF?
- I attended the memorial service of a very close family friend yesterday, and didn't watch the game until last night. Scrupulously managed to avoid even the slightest hint of the outcome all day until the DVR had run its course. Seriously, the memorial was better time spent - by far. That was one fuggly game by the Pats...
