I think Cinci and Seattle will be deadlocked for worst in the NFL. Abandon all hope, ye who cheer.

On another note, I can't stop watching this...

I'd put money on the Bungles losing season. It might even be a perfect season. 0-16. Even the Browns are going to have fun playing them this year.

I've been gone for a week+. Is it worth going back to see what I missed?

I'll fill you in:

Cape, PTN and Bird: patriots are rebuilding and they're better than evah!
Desert, Boerderj, and olllllllllllo: packers won with a billion people on IR

that's about it.

FWIW- "chomping" is an acceptable alternative, sort of like "Baited breath" is so often used that even dictionaries have accepted it instead of the true word, "bated" (short for abated, or a stopping).

I see they fined Suh for roughing the pusser. I didn't see that portion of the game (sister was admitted to the hospital just before the game), but from a photo it looked like he may have hit him just as the ball was being thrown.

At any rate, he's going to be a fearsome opponent and I think teams are going to have trouble when he and our new defenseman are lined up against.

I foresee Icy/Hot having a banner year. :D

That fine was hot garbage. In the play, it looks as though Suh thought he still had the ball and was wrestling him to the ground. Total garbage. RE: the helmet coming off. Fine the idiot QB for not buckling his chinstrap correctly.

From the fine, it wasn't even for the late hit. He got a Roughing penalty. I haven't actually seen the play, so I can't comment on the roughness of the hit.

Gone are the days when QB's (Queefing Babies) get to play like real men. They are treated almost as bad as Hockey goalies: Like china dolls.

I think the roughing passer penalty needs a realignment.

uh, i'm not gonna lie, i haven't really been paying attention to football at all yet, but...

new kickoff spot wtF!?

Been MIA lately but just chiming in quickly on the Suh fine...

i think it is total bull&^* that players are whining about being fined. "Boooo hoooo hooo!!! You're ruining the game Goodell!!! You're turning it into touch football!!! Hitting is part of the game!!! It's a violent game, let us play!!!!"

... the day before the NFL gets a multi-million dollar lawsuit slapped against them by 7 former players accusing the NFL of "not properly protecting them against concussions".

Which effin' way do the players want it?!?!

Don't gimme "let us play" and then turn around and sue the effin' league for "letting them play".

I am fine with the rules. I just think the call was crap. To me, it looked like Suh thought he was getting a sack or a legal hit and trying to take him to the ground.

I agree with the current head-to-head penalties.

I strongly disagree with the "touching" the passer penalties.

Meh. He grabbed him by the head and threw him down after the ball was gone. Whether he thought the QB still had possession of the ball is irrelevant;

A. You can't tackle a guy by the head, certainly not a QB
B. It's his responsibility to know the QB does have the ball anymore.

I just watched that hit he had on Jay Cutler last year, and that one, too... whether he actually hit him in the head or not, that's exactly what the NFL is trying to get players to NOT do. TACKLE the opponent, wrap them up, don't just knock them down.

EDIT: Just wait, though. Some of these plays, these unneccesary-roughness calls, they aren't just going to be fines anymore. I wouldn't be surprised to see the League start tossing guys out of games more regularly when they make plays that are clearly over the line (I don't think either of the Suh hits was THAT bad).

Yeah, I agree with perhaps a penalty I guess. I could be talked into that. But taking 20,000 for that is crazy to me, for either of Suh's hits.

I do agree about ejections though. For example, the hit on 85 in the Pats game. That kids should have been tossed. That is the kind of deliberate "blow up" head-to-head, they need to do away with. Could have ended a mans season with that garbage.

I did not see this tackle, so I can hardly comment on the nastiness of the hit. I do remember Cutler getting creamed and Suh def. deserved a fine for that one. Even if the QBs are becoming little princesses.

Very interested to see what happens tonight. If I can get a looksee at the campground.

I havent even seen the Suh hit but I heard about it. My only point from before was that the players can't have it both ways and if I am the NFL and I'm going to start getting sued by ex-players, I'm going go over the top in cutting out ALL hits to the head that are even close. I think you're going to see a lot of fines and game suspensions.

It is a good point and I am not sure why I hadn't considered it before. I can buy that they are trying to prove to future lawsuits that they are being pro-active with player safety.

Wow. I hadn't actually watched Danny Woodhead's getting clocked until now; that's about as egregious a helmet-to-helmet hit as I've seen since they league started cracking down.

Like... that's exactly the kind of play where I think the refs are going to (and should) start tossing the offending player. That's a player on the Bucs who simply is playing reckless football, who can't control where he's hitting (or alternatively, just doesn't care about the rules). If you can't keep from hitting a guy like that... you probably shouldn't be allowed on the field. I'm sure it's a young kid on the Bucs who's trying to make a name for himself, but that kind of play can't endear himself to the coaching staff.

And, if Brandon Merriweather or Pat Chung did the same, I'd say to toss them out, too. That's just the kind of play that it's abundantly clear, based on all the medical research that they're been doing, is just completely unacceptable.

If you look at the play in really slow motion, right before Woodhead gets hit (.29/.30), he looks at the defender. The side of the defender's face mask makes contact with Woodhead's chest and slides up to the helmet. Also, Woodhead turns his head and sees the defender right before the moment of impact. Did he flinch, or slow down changing the point of impact? I can't tell with a youtube video. Because his head made contact with the chest first, I think that makes a difference in the penalty he should pay. I HAVE NEVER PLAYED AT THE PRO LEVEL. But, I can tell you that at any level, when your playing, the game is incredibly fast.
