noxious fumes?

I took a gravity reading today and I took a big whiff from the open bucket fermenter... It burned the **** out of my nose. Is that normal? It had some suspicious filmy looking bubbles... I'll post a picture if I can find a place to host it. It is hop head double IPA extract kit from midwest.

dont smell fermenting beer. it will remove nose hairs!

all mine do this, save for the "afro" i get on top of the airlock, those smell like hops.

Getting a big whiff of CO2 will burn like a mother. Yes, it's normal but don't do it because it's not that fun.

yeah, I only made that mistake once. I was used to smelling through an airlock but when i first started using a blow off tube I took a whiff out of the jug i had the tube in. Lesson learned.
