Hi all. I'm really new to the whole home brewing thing, I've only made one batch of beer so far. Now that I am back home (just got out of the army) I have a lot more time to focus on brewing.
This year I want to expand to making wine and I would love to make my own hard cider from scratch. I enjoy building things and will be building my own hand apple/fruit grinder. I would also like to build my own (screw) fruit press, but I am having a hard time finding the large screw/bolt that I need to build it. If anyone has any ideas of where I can find one, please let me know. Thanks

I've never actually seen those parts for sale as individual items, just whole presses etc in the homebrew store.

If you cant find a reseller, hardware store etc that can sell a bolt/screw that you can use you can always try pull a swifty, ie contact the manufacturer of one of the purpose built cider presses and ask to buy a replacement part (noone has to know you dont own the entire press).

That's a great idea; I'm gonna try it.

I just really like the old style presses, and the old way of doing things. In my opinion it makes the end result that much more enjoyable knowing that you put in some good hard work making something.
