NOTD (newbie of the day)

Well, hello everyone. I'm about as new to homebrewing as one can be. Technically, I haven't even really started yet. My Mr. Beer kit (I know, I know) will be arriving tomorrow, and my first batch will be fermenting a few hours after that.

For the Mr. Beer loathers out there, I should probably defend myself. I wanted to dive in headfirst into this obsession we all share (although in my case it's just the drinking of beer, not yet the creation) but the wife insisted I start with the cheap stuff just to make sure I stick with the hobby. After a few batches, I'll be upgrading quickly to multiple fermenters, glass carboys, etc...

Anyway, thanks for all the useful info so far! I look forward to the day when I can list 3 or 4 brews on tap and many more in primary/secondary. Kampai!

well my newly introduced noob like individual, you have no need to defend yourself to anyone. Half the people here started with Mr. Beer and fallowed the exact course of action you have planned out... and for exactally the same reason too... I was even lower then that, i started with vynal tubing and 2 gallon water kegs with spigots, in my bed room closet... those were the days... Mr. Beer is merely another step on the road to complete obsession and insanity...

Well, I figured the hobby is basically two parts. Brewing the best possible beer you can manage, then drinking it. I already drink the best possible brew I can manage, so I figure I'm about 2/3rds of the way there.

Honestly, this hobby is going to drain the wallet for a while though. I'm already pricing kegging supplies and kegerators. :cross: I want to get to that point where I have more than enough beer in reserve to keep myself stocked, but also share with friends.

youd be surprised how fast you get there actully. I started as i told you and with in a year was brewign with almost a dozen 5 gallon fermenters. I recentlly have only 7 but am working on a way to increas that to close to 20 with 1-4 gallon batches comming ready every month, and 1-3 batches of ale every month... weather or not i implement this is up to me, but i would really like to have that kind of capacity
