So today i brewed 2 lagers. I made starters and stepped them up yesterday (WYeast Bavarian Lager) and brewed today. An oktoberfest and a Traditional Bock.
Well i was going to decoction mash but i had just enough time to brew the two. Started the Oktoberfest at 133, then stepped up to 152 (this was my first step mash too), had a small problem maintaining temp and it fell to 146 so i use a bit of boiling water and brought it back up to 152. Sparged and collected both in my main boil pot. I started mashing the bock because i was waiting on my brew partner to bring over something we need for the plate chiller.
Anyway long story short. 2 lagers brewed, step mashes, plate chiller got clogged so i switch to my immersion...
I have NEVER hit my volume and OG, i credit it to the step mash, and a little over assumption for my evap rate lol....
I hit the oktoberfest dead on both volume and OG
was over on the bock by .001 and very nearly couldn't fit all of it in the fermenter...
In short, i don't think i'll even go back to single infusion, the step was just too easy not to do.
