Have wanted to brew beer for a longtime. Think it's about to break down and start. I hope it's as enjoyable as I'm expecting.

Thanks. I am afraid of it becoming addicting. This is why I am a little hesitant. I would like skip bottling and go straight to kegs.

Bottling will help you refine some solid processes. It will help you realize how important sanitation is, as well as develop your patience. Brew a batch, bottle after a month, then shove those bottles in a closet (70*+ please...) for AT LEAST 3 WEEKS. in that timeframe, just suck it up and buy another fermenter, or four, and keep brewing!

all I do is search recipes and info every night after work...I've brewed 3 batches in 4 weeks and haven't even had a chance to let them sit for long enough to 'do their thing' properly since the first batch came out so good!
definately an addiction!!

If you don't keg, start collecting bottles. You need about 50-53 for a 5 gallon batch. Then collect some more because you will soon buy more fermenters to do more styles. Even if you do keg, have some bottles. It is easier to take bottles for a picnic.

If kegging, be prepared to get another keg, then another plus a freezer to convert to a keezer. Then comes a new bar, then a custom brewstand, then a new brew shed...

Oh, BTW, welcome. You'll have a lot of fun.

Thanks for the info. The decision is made I just started saving bottles. This is going to be more fun then I thought. I'm North of Boston. Two bottles down fifty more or so to go.

you missed a groupon from northern brewers. it was a sweet little start up kit. Go straight to the 5 gal batches. AVOID MrBeer! It is how I got into brewing, however it tastes like crap lol.

It's so funny how many people started with Mr Beer! And what's funny is I thought it tasted better than the BMC stuff I used to drink, now Mr Beer and the BMC both taste like crap! Anyway it is not that addictive......I mean if you consider spending all your free time reading about, watching vids on YouTube and thinking about the next brew or the next new shiny piece to buy not that addictive then you will be fine. Welcome to the hobby!

You have heard a lot of good advice on bottling and it is a fine direction to go. I bottled exactly one batch and quit for kegs.

I would start with bottles. If you enjoy it, great! If not, you can bottle a few, here and there, from the tap.

This is a great "hobby" "addiction" "passion", what ever you call it just go for it you won't regret it! I'm bottling my second batch tomorrow, the first one came out great.
This will also teach you patience, since the time between making your brew to drinking your brew is a couple of months!
Plus I must say collecting and saving bottles is pretty fun too l:tank:
