looking to buy kegs for a wedding. what is the cheapest price you can find? I'm finding that 4 is going to cost me about $260. I live right near MoreBeer and they have a sale so i can get them without shipping costs. I have done a lot of research, but i want to be informed.

My ball locks cost me $35 each. I bought 10 of them, group buy. We (my club) actually bought a pallet of them. I think the LHBS sells them for roughly $50 here.

Well that is cheating! :D I have 12 (just ordered 4). 6 cost me $35 each and the other 6 were $40 each. :ban:

$35. for pin and $49. for ball lock from a sponsor on this forum. Look in Sponsor Deals on the right side panel.--------------------->

McEver distributors sells them through ebay for $45 and usually you can make an offer for a few bucks less. They usually ship 4 to a box, so that's probably the optimum for shipping. There should be a shipping calculator on there that you can play with to see for sure.

Homebrewing.org has some for $30 -- they have loose handles and/or bottoms. CornyKeg.com has some converted pin-lock kegs for a bit more. Farmhouse Brewing Supply has a 4-pack of ball lock kegs for $200. Just do some Googling. :)

I got mine locally a kit 3 years ago at $200 - 2 kegs regulator and tank with picnic taps. Got 2 more kegs locally for $45 each. I infrequently see someone on Craigslist at $50 now but usually at $60 - $70 now.....

Shipping is usually the killer for buying online.....

Beverage Elements, another sponsor, also has great deals on kegs. I got a bunch of their class 'C' with dings, dents and crappy handles for about $35 each. I'll phase em out eventually, but I've had zero issues with using them so far.

Wherever you get them and however much you pay, just be sure of one thing. You give yourself plenty of time to get everything setup correctly. I built a bar for my wedding and did not have my lines hooked up until about 3 hours before the ceremony. I was scrambling to fix leaks and the like. It was stressful. And I did not have time to troubleshoot any foam issues and the such so a friend of mine kept messing with pressure, over pressurizing and purging. And then set the pressure too low. So by the end of the night I had a keg labelled empty but wasn't and I ended with a fresh 5lb nearly empty.

Also, just for reference, I had three 5 gallons, a 15 gallon and about 200 bottles for about 150 people, plus bottles of wine. It worked out to be enough, but likely because we also said some beer and wine will be supplied but also BYOB for when we run out. If it was not for the pressure mistake my friend made, all but a few bottles would have been gone.
