No room for hop bag

I used a hop bag yesterday.Everything was fine until I lowered the basket with the chiller in it with 15 min left in the boil to sterilize.With the basket in there is not enough room for the bag.Actullay there is room but its squished between the pot and basket with not much water movement. I had to raise the basket just to get the last hop addition in.Theres no room under the basket either.Im wondering how everyone deals with this.

Toss the hops in loose? It's what I've always done. If using a CFC or plate chiller this could be problematic, but IC chiller is fine.

It was real nice having the bag with no racking or cleaning trub

Can you do the entire boil, rather than just final 15 min, with the basket and chiller in the kettle, then toss the hop bag(s) in the center of the chiller?

Actually, keep the hops in for the full boil time. Pull the hops when you flame out. Put the chiller in. You really don't need to boil your chiller to sanitize it.

Curious? Don't think have seen it done that way?

Just sanitize your chiller with another method. I just dip mine in star san before putting it in for chilling.

To keep it off the temp probe and heating element.120 feet,Its got some weight.
And your bags worked Awesome.Super easy to clean also!

120 feet OMG, your off the charts! Is that a double coil or single? I reckon you could use a booster pump to get enough water to fully utilize that chiller j/k.

Another option would be to bend the chiller feeds such that it hangs on the rim of the kettle.

Please post a pic if your monster chiller.
