Did we warp back into the 70's? All over North Georgia it is damn near impossible to get ANY gas! I passed by 14 stations tonight that had NO gas and when I was finally able to find a station with gas, there was a $20 limit at $4/gal.

Is this affecting anyone else?

They've been saying all week it is a result of Gustav and Ike causing the pipelines to go down. That caused a shortage and a subsequent run on gas, which in turn lead to stations running out. The media isn't really helping much because they are fueling the paranoia and these morons go out and fill up everything they've got including their boats and every gas can they can find, which only exacerbates the problem.

I wish my truck ran on bio diesel.

I agree. It is a slight supply problem greatly exacerbated by idiots and Atlanta is full of them. The TV stations are indeed making it worse going out and searching for the stations with the longest lines to do their live shots from.

We have been pretty lucky and have found stations with gas and short lines. I think the key is to go looking around 10am.

It sucks and I am getting tired of it.

Yeah, we've been hit pretty hard. Just a few local stations have something left, usually premium too. Oi.
Beards Brews: where in NE GA are you? I'm in Habersham County...

was watching a utube vid on this. seems the south east and the south are affected by this the hardest but havent heard any news reports. time to get used to bikes.

McKbrew, we get our gasoline from refineries in Bellingham, so no worries for us. And because of all the redneck morans doing gas runs, California no longer has the most expensive gas in the nation.

Well, I think it is getting worse here in Atlanta. I almost ran out of gas yesterday looking for somewhere to stop. I pulled into a QT with about 5 cars in line but soon realized no one was pumping gas, I guess there was a truck on the way. I left and went to another station, there were about 10 cars in front of me but it was orderly. I probably would not have made it to the next station.

I think I am going to try to work at home most of this week.

If you can manage your schedule, I had more luck going late at night or super early in the morning before everyone else (or after everyone else, the trucks were still coming at night, obviously) got there.

Well shoot, here in upstate NY the price keeps going down, and no shortage. $3.50 a gallon, which is the lowest it's been in a while.

Man that sucks. I heard about that last week, where they were saying that NE supplies would not be affected. I feel for ya, hang in there!

+1 on the media. We have a supply problem, not an actual shortage. Right now, normal daily usage is approx normal daily supply. So around noon, stations start running dry. By morning most are full again. The majority of these people you see on the news went to work with 1/16 of a tank and now want to buy gas on their way home at 6pm (with the E light flashing). And when they can't find any they continue to ride around in circles for an hour and then either run out of gas or park and idle in line at the pump for another 1/2 hour.

Get a grip, Atlanta. Go home and buy your gas in the morning. No need to go buy twenty gas cans. If you're at look and you're at 1/2 a tank, fill up. You'll get home just fine, and if you can't find any gas again until day after tomorrow, no problem. Repeat as necessary until the supply normalizes.

Oh, and a special rant for the ITP people: Welcome to a world where the gas station and dry cleaners are more than 50yrds from your door. I know it's tough to step outside your "I want it now" lifestyle, but for most people a little daily planning is required. Here's some advice to get you started. There are 4M++ people in Atlanta and 200 gas stations. There are 3M+ in the rest of the state and 6000 gas stations. Instead of driving around and around downtown like an idiot, hit the freeway toward suburbia, fill your tank, and retreat back to your urban loft. You'll burn a whole lot less gas, avoid lines at the pump, and be a whole lot less stressed overall. Unfortunately, you will miss the opportunity to get your face on the news whining about how horrible the problem is and the opportunity to collectively bitch while waiting in line at QT. Sigh.... The sacrifices we have to make sometimes...

Maybe if people OTP would stop driving 60 miles everyday to/from work, there would be enough gas for everyone! :cross::cross:

Prices are actually low (at least in The Nash) but there's just a shortage. Weirdest thing.

Gas is ALWAYS cheaper for me in Chattanooga, but lately it's 3.90 and most stations are out, but Knoxville which is usually the highest around has gas everywhere for 3.39-3.59. Very strange indeed. Yes I drive a lot for work, 900+ miles a week.:(

Never clocked it exactly, but my daily commute is between 25-40 feet...

I used to live downtown (14th street), and it tickles the hell out of me to see 900 people trying to cram into a gas station with 4 pumps. All worried that they might run out of gas and have to walk 4 blocks home...

No problems up here in Massachusetts. I just passed a gas station on the way home that had unleaded regular for $3.29 which I thought was pretty good. I was in Tennessee a couple weeks ago for 4 days and there was a mini gas crisis. Gas jumped up a dollar in a night and people were freaking out and filling up anything that could hold gas. We saw more than a few stations that ran out of gas and they were big name stations like Shell and Mobil.
