I've noticed one of the first newbie post are no bubbles in the airlocks. I already know blow-off tubes and airlocks are safety devices only. I currently have three 1 gallon jugs fermenting. One is a cream ale. It was spewing so hard through the blow-off the closet door was shaking. It calmed down after a few days. Now the airlock is silent. But I know it's doing it's thing. No panic here. It will be ready to bottle next weekend. I started a red ale Wednesday and it just calmed down enough to get the airlock on. Of course, no airlock bubbles at all today, but I can see the CO2 activity in the jug. My recent jug is a classic ale. It had minimal blow off for one night and was really silent today. But I can see the little fizzy activity telling me it's perfectly fine. I'll check FG when I'm ready to bottle. I have better things to do than babysit airlocks and freak out over bubbles. Looking forward to starting some larger batches and testing out my first cream ale. I know patience will payoff.

If only more brewers had your attitude. An airlock is the most superfluous thing in the entire brewing process, yet so many folks put so much weight on what it does or doesn't do.....
