No airlock activity for 3 days. Should I repitch or is it too late?

Hey guys!

I boiled a cream ale on Saturday and pitched my yeast in the afternoon after I boiled.

I hit all my numbers and cooled down to 22 C and pitched my US-05 dry yeast, which I had taken to room temp and then rehydrated in boiled water at room temp for 15 mins.

I aerated etc and let it be.

3 days and no airlock activity. I am thinking the yeast has expired or was exposed to extreme conditions during delivery. I have already ordered a new 11g of US-05 for my 5 galon wort, but I decided to peek inside and a krausen is formed. The fermentor doesn't smell bad - the regular smell of fermenting. Fermentor seems pretty well sealed.

I will get the new yeast tomorrow morning. Should I pitch it or am I already doomed?

If you see a krausen you're all good. I'd just let it go. Maybe check your fermenter for leak a little more thoroughly. If you're using a plastic bucket to ferment in you may never get it to seal properly. No worries though, it'll still make beer.

The krausen and/or krausen ring indicates you have active fermentation going on. Sounds like you have a leaky fermenter lid or airlock seal. I would see no real benefit in pitching another sachet of yeast since it sounds like you are ok as is. Check your gravity in a few days and you should be close to finishing.

but the water in the airlock wasnt even leaning to the outside and the fermenter looked properly sealed... I have fermented many a beer in it and this has never happened.

I have 3 buckets and only one of them seals. The other 2 never bubble. I just trust the yeast is doing what it's supposed to. 21 batches under my belt and all of them made delicious beer.
