It'll be interesting to watch the Kovalchuck trade situation develop. I'd heard the Kings rumors and saw that Lombardi was on his way to the ATL to discuss. The benefit that LA has going for them is they seem to have the cap room to sign to a long-term contract, which is something Chicago does not have the ability to do. I think that Chicago can offer more proven, young players and their need to dump salary makes it seem logical they would make a run at Kovalchuck. It would also be sick to think of the possible line combinations the Hawks might have, but I'm a Hawks fan.

I think where the possibilities become interesting is if you look at the top and bottom seeds in the Western Conference it is possible to think that no matter which team get Kovalchuck it might have immediate first-round playoff implications. I love the soap opera component the NHL seems to have from mid-season to the trade deadline.

Canucks are in that running as well. Interesting to see what happens.

Yep, that's Huet. Rebounding from a shaky loss with a shutout over the lowly BlowJackets of Columbus, OH.

Hawks 3, CBJ 0

Chicago - 47 games played, 32 W, 11L, 4 OTL - 68 points

Patrick Sharp beats Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard for the winning goal in a shootout.

:rockin:

Blackhawks played a pretty good game. I didn't mind the Wings taking a point out of this. I admit I liked Datsyuk's SO goal better... But I'm biased.

Not exactly thrilled about the way the refs called a goal in the Dallas shootout though. But that's the way it goes sometimes. Maybe they need to add a few more Referees? Eventually there will be enough of them on th eice to be able to see everything that happens.

That was an awesome game yesterday.
OT was crazy with action.

I missed it past the first period. I managed to work on my wife's car in the morning, but my hangover got the best of me and I sat down to watch the game. But then I had to get to the parts store and finish the car before the game was over. We taped it, but I caught the results on the radio in the garage. I'm so stupid cause I could have listened to it on the local station, but the thought never crossed my mind. (The only thing crossing my mind at the time was some throbbing pain...)

I seriously think that with the team they have, and the play I've seen so far, Chicago might have the best chance in the West to win the cup. Anything can happen in the playoffs, but they look real good and I get the feeling that they can play through to the end.

Now if Detroit can get healthy and get the team to play as a team, we might get to the playoffs this year!

Eaves & Versteeg with one hell of a fight near the end of the 1st.

I love how the league thinks it needs to curtail fighting to draw more fans to the game, and yet you never hear them cheer as much as when two guys are going at it.

That was a good fight. Both guys gave a few hits and someone got bloody.

The Avs put on a clinic last night against Edmonton, 6-0. I think they're the only team in our division I don't hate with a passion.

Confidence, it's been a while since I've had it with the Avs.

Wings screwed themselves last night. Played a hell of a game and STILL let the Caps get away with the points. After Detroit's first goal I told me wife I was glad they scored. It was starting to look like one of those games where Detroit outplays the other team real bad and still loses. Can I call it or what? Sheesh.

At least they lost points to eastern conf, right?
Hawks sucked at Ottawa last night too.
Hossa had a nice shorty-breakaway, but was only one to put it in the net.

Yeah, but they didn't gain points on LA for the last spot. At least LA got pwned last night!

And I'm sorry to see that Chicago lost as well

NOT! 8)

Kesler goes all Greco-Roman on Ladd to end the first period. Now the 'Hawks need to score otherwise this is going to be a long game. Niemi's been out of position all-night.

Edit: Well second period was a waste. Hoping my bomber of SN Celebration Ale sparks a 4 goal third period.

Luongo was awesome & rest o' Canucks played a solid game plan.

Ladd rocks Kesler with a quick left:

Ladd taunting, pointing at eye after Kesler goes for the takedown.

Luongo was awesome, the Canucks did play a solid game plan, but this should have been a closer game. Obviously, every month won't be like December, but it seems Huet is offering up some soft goals, and the there are time when the rest of team is throwing the puck away blindly. I'm sure the ship will right itself, but a lot of these game have a playoff type intensity.

Hope Denny enjoyed the victory.

Ward and Staal have another good game and the Canes are finally playing like they did late last year...fourth win in a row, this time over Chicago 4-2.

Too bad guys like Ray Whitney are on the trading block and that the team is going young. Maybe we will get that first draft choice this season after all.

Sadly, I think he is losing his mind. So in MacLean now that I mention it.

Also, I think Cherry is running out of new fabric designs. He's been hitting the 1050's - 1970's couch fabrics pretty hard as of late.

Nice to see Burrows and twins woke up late in the second. I think they either playing with Toronto or trying to give them a chance.

Seriously though, Luongo needs to take a damn break once in a while. Raycroft should have been starting tonight and Luo should have been resting on the bench. Hehe, speaking of. I fell over laughing when I found out Toronto is still paying Raycroft's salary. bwahahaha!
