Newbie question?

Hi Everyone,
I have what i think is a simple question...
Hydrometers...
The beginning gravity, the higher the number, the more ABV there will be in the end correct?
How does Final Gravity work?

For example a beer that is supposed to have a Beginning Gravity of 1.042 and a final of 1.010. I get that that is about 5% potential alcohol, but what about the final gravity?

you have to get an original gravity, and a final gravity. with those, you can get the alcohol percentage. you can go online or use beersmith or a similar program for that

Pretty much. It's a mathematical equation to figure out the ABV that anyone can do with a basic calculator:

ABV%=(1.05 x [OG-FG]) /0.79
