I am just looking into brewing my own. Plan to read everything on this site. Does anyone have a good book to recommend to supplement my learning?

Complete Joy of Homebrewing
How to Brew
Designing Great Beers
Radical Brewing
Tasting Beer
Homebrewing for Dummies (yes I'm serious)
Brewing Classic Styles

Joy is a good book, but not as technical as How to Brew. How to Brew has more technical information, but IMO it lacks Papazian's zeal and encouragement. Both will provide TONS of information useful to brewing. I was surprised by the Dummies book as well.

After those three, check out the others and as always look to HBT to provide even more useful and up-to-date information. And check out Basic Brewing Radio and The Brewing Network among others for great audio and video podcasts all about brewing.

Brewing Classic Styles

+1 to these ones

Joy is nice to start with because it calms the nerves and keeps things simple and high level. How to Brew is more technical and will likely answer questions you still have after reading Joy. Then I would read Classic Styles last.

Some of the ones like Tasting Beer, Designing Beer, and Radical Brewing are good books, but I wouldn't start with these. These would be my suggestions for continued learning after you have a few batches under your belt.

Then, if you really want some advanced stuff, read Brewing Lager Beer, and anything written by George Fix.

+1 on starting with Complete Joy of Homebrewing.

Then devour everything on these messageboards.

Good luck. Brewing is a wonderful hobby. The payoff for the time and energy you put in is amazing.

Thanks for the help. I ordered the How To Brew and the Joy of Homebrewing books and will read them and this board before trying my first brew. I will add the other books later.
