Hey All.

Name's Aaron and I'm a homebrew newbie from Toronto. Scarborough actually.

I've purchased 90% of my equipment and ingredients and I'm nervously working my way into brewing my first batch.

I'm just looking to see if there's anyone from Toronto area, especially other newbies, who'd like to chat or even hook up for a homebrew session and give me a hand with a batch.

Message me if you're interested in discussing beginner stuff.

What's up AB? Welcome to HBT.

Maybe someone from the Leafs' can brew. They seem to have a hard time playing hockey...

Won't disagree. Seems like some of our boys in blue are chugging back some pretty strong homebrew before hitting the ice.

Oh, I was going to give you some crap about the leafs, but I got beat to it. And I really can't talk since the Wings are not looking so great this year so far either.

At least we have our homebrew to drown our sorrow in.

Welcome to HBT fellow Canuck! :mug:

I'll dig up the thread, but I believe there is a 'learn to homebrew' day at Amsterdam Brewery put on by the Southern Ontario Brewers coming up in November you may want to check out.

Edit: Found it, was in the groups section.

Welcome to another Canadian homebrewer. I am also pretty much a noob even though I have been making my own beer for years.\ I have not done any real brewing. Mostly wort in a bag type kits(festabrew is fairly good) They are a good way to get confident that you can make something that tastes good with minimal effort, They are also good for building up your pipeline.

Hello fellow ontario home brewers!! I m from Newmarket. Getting ready to brew my first extract brew: A Double IPA. Don't know bout everybody else but is'nt it a royal pain to find supplies up here? Randy in Brampton seems good but can't seem to return my email questions. I m trying to get everything for my next 2 batches but DME is limited and I don't know what to sub it with.
Heres what I'm working on:
Double Chocolate Rasberry Stout-can't find Light DME or Belgian D2 syrup, malto dextrine
Mountain Brew- extra light dme

I would like to make lots of wacky beers but it is really hard to find the right stuff.

Any thoughts?

Welcome to HBT! :mug:

Your best bet for ingredients will probably be online I'm afraid. LHBS in our area are few and far between (especially decent ones).

Homebrewers Retail and Mashing Heads are two I like.

Thanks!
I have checked out both places. Their ok, I guess its the novice in me that cant figure some things out.
Dont we get dinged bad with duties buying from mail order? Midwest has great stuff but im afraid ill pay way more

Those two companies are in Ontario. Yes you will get hit pretty bad if you order from the US. A number of the major US suppliers won't even ship to Canada anymore. Some will and will often offer to ship USPS which will avoid the fun of UPS brokerage fees.

There is no retail store. Randy does it on the side from his house. Nice guy picked up ingredients for my dbl ipa from him and he shared his dark ale. He has good stuff or if he doesnt he will look. I just needed some quick replies but he is to busy. I do plan on getting most of my stuff from him
