Can someone please direct me to a thread where some new guy let sanitizer into his primary while switching out the blowoff tube?

Because, I just did exactly that.

I predict the answer will be RDWHAH, but still would like some reassurance.

What type sanitizer? I'm sure you could probably find a thread just as well as i could; I'll leave the search to you. :D

I looked! I looked up in the beginners FAQ and everything but no dice.

by the way it was 5 star PBW

PBW is a cleaner, not a sanitizer... maybe you meant Star San? I hope? I have no idea what PBW in beer would do.

It's not the answer to the PBW into the beer, but discussion of cleaners/sanitizers:

Star San is my sanitizer of choice. Make maybe 1 gallon for every 5 gallons brewed. Dunk stuff that can be dunked or soaked. I keep some in a squirt bottle, spray stuff and use within a minute or so. No rinsing.

EDIT: and don't worry at all if Star San gets into beer. And rack right onto the foam in a carboy. It's no hassle stuff.

that logic appears sound. It couldn't have been more than a tablespoon, just from the inside of the airlock. Guess I will proceed with caution and won't use PBW anymore.

P.S. I do have sanitizers, the used brewing kit I bought came with a few bottles of cleaners/sanitizers, I just picked the already opened one.

Lesson learned I suppose. Thanks guys

Hot damn what part of Grand Rapids?? That's my hometown.

Grew up in the Plainfield area near Comstock park.

Just an update for you all, tried some beer out of the primary today, couldn't taste any off flavors or band aids. I'm going to give it another 2 weeks in the secondary to settle out even more.

A little PBW won't hurt nothing!

Happy brewing
