Hey I am new to brewing and my carboy over flowed. I thought I gave it enough head room. What might I be doing wrong

Use the search function and look up blow off tube. Most of the questions you have have already been asked. Welcome to the obsession!

Wow sounds like you got a real good culture of yeast . When I use carboys to ferment I only fill them up almost to half way. How much space did you leave?

Blow off tubes are the way to go. I don't use airlocks during primary fermentation.

Yeah use a blowoff tube in the rubber stopper instead of an airlock. Then put the other end of that tube into a jar of starsan (or water if you don't have sanitizer). This ensures excess beer will "blow off" into the jar rather than blow the lid off of the carboy.
