I read an article in BYO this issue and want to try the Bacchus Wai-Iti IPA clone but can't find the Wiamea hops anywhere in the States. Shipping from NZ is pretty pricey.

If I cant find any I have two options. I was thinking about just using all Wai-Iti but would need 12 oz to achieve the same IBU's. Or I could use Pacific Jade in place of the Wiamea.

Any leads would be helpful. Thanks!

I'm about a week ahead of you and cannot find anyone in the US selling them.

I found a guy another forum with 44 POUNDS of them for sale but I think they sold.

I have what I think is a pretty solid recipe together for an alternate. If I cant find them I'm gonna go with 2oz of Pacific Jade.

Damn it! As a substitution I was thinking of maybe trying some Azacca or a mix of Amarillo/Simcoe (especially as I have these two on hand and don't have to order from 1/2 way around the world).

Not sure if you were referring to the Wai-iti and the Pacific Jade but moorbeer has both of them.

If I find the wiamea i'll post a link.

Are you planning on the exact recipe from BYO?

Yes, was planning on trying that exact recipe. I saw the wai-iti at morebeer.com but it was pricey so got it elsewhere and paid $32 for a pound.

I wanted to use the Waimea but have looked everywhere to no avail. Also it is only used in the bittering addition so don't think I'll miss much by an amarillo/simcoe blend.

Wow, those prices are ridiculous. My hops pusher is selling them for $13.00 a pound.

I was going to use pacific Jade for bittering instead of the Waimea because I couldn't find them until Beezer posted that link. Now I have all my ingredients and was planning on brewing tomorrow....should I wait and order some of the waimea or do you think I will have similar results with the pacific jade? They both have high oil levels but the pj is said to have a peppery and blackberry taste that comes out for late additions which I am kind of worried about. I dont know if those same notes will come out when added at 60 minutes.

I held out for the Waimea to come in the mail. Just pitched the Wyeast 1217 West Coast IPA. Ill update in a few weeks if anyone cares to see how it goes.

Definitely let me know how it goes. I chose to hold off for the 2014 Waimea.

Despite having a higher final gravity, I bottled the IPA today. Started at 1.063 and finished at 1.019 only 69% attenuation. Not sure what went wrong. I used Wyeast 1217. I dry hopped 1 ounce for 3 days then added another ounce for 6 days. It tasted pretty good but a little sweet. I'll see how it is in a few weeks.

This one came out pretty good. A little over carbed but a nice flavor. The mouth feel is a little thin but overall a solid beer. I've given a few away and everyone has requested more.
