Hey there, just getting into the hobby and have been lurking around here for the past month or so. Been into beer since 08 and got pretty serious about what I liked to drink for the past couple years. Had my first brew day 8 days back with a basic ale pail and Brewer's Best APA extract kit. Had a ton of fun that day and have been non stop reading and learning as much as I can about brewing in the meantime.

Just popped the top for the first time tonight and grabbed a sample, after 8 days with little to no visible airlock activity she was down to 1.012 from 1.050. I tasted it and though it was my first time tasting an unfinished beer, I think it was pretty good. Pleasant aroma and decent taste, though warm and flat it was all hops and no malt. I am holding out hope that I may exceed my expectations for a first brew.

A good friend caught wind I was making beer and wanted in so I thought it'd be cool to try a couple small batch IPA's this weekend. We plan on picking up a couple smaller fermenters and doing 2.5 gallon full boils with the same malt/extract and yeast but different hops.

Really love the blend of creativity and science involved with this hobby. A little lesson in patience is never a bad thing either. Excited to stick around here and learn and discuss with all the other brewers and beer enthusiasts.

Cheers,
Adam

Thanks guys, definitely got the bug bad. Trying to be economical and smart about it but definitely want to go partial mash and onto ag soon assuming these first three extract batches turn out. This site helps tremendously, glad I didn't just go by recipe directions!

Also plan on joining up with AHA as it seems like a good cause and I really like the Zymurgy magazine.
