Hello All !

... I'm obviously new to the forum and reside in Johnson Creek, Wisconsin. My wife got me interested in home brewing by purchasing me a Mr. Beer kit that sat in my basement for approximately two years before I was interested enough to try it. So, one afternoon, I decided 'what the hell' and gave it a try with the included ingredients for a Pale Ale. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was, however also understood how easy it can be to introduce contaminants to the beer causing the taste to become altered. Anyhow ... the beer tasted very good, but was a little on the hoppy/yeasty side ... although that could be a characteristic of the beer ... I don't know. I did determine after the fact it was fermenting in an area outside/below the suggested temperature range ... not sure if that was the culprit or not. Secondly, I used the plastic bottles and those were of a lesser 'pressure' than the Grolsch bottles I used ... not sure how that happened.

... so now, I have a Cherry Wheat fermenting and a Dutch Apple Ale ready and waiting on the 2nd 2 gallon Mr. Beer fermenting 'keg'. What do you good folks suggest I do next in terms of home brewing gear? I want better quality/capacity gear, just don't want to get in too fast financially and above my current ability.

... I look forward from hearing from ya !

Welcome aboard LarryO,

Lots of helpful people here as well as vendors...BE Careful as Mr. Beer creates monsters.
I would read all stickies...they are very helpful

There are some great starter kits around, 5 gallon batches are a good place to start...(Midwestsupplies.com, Northernbrewer.com,Austinhomebrew.com, Amazon)

4 steps to brewing ...lol

1) Read, research and chat people up

2) Sanitize everything (be freaky about it)

3) Dont rush your beer, only your beer can tell you when its done

4)rdwhahb

and of course

dip dive duck dodge and dive.

Cheers and welcome to the obsession
