So I'm making a melomel with strawberries and raspberries. It's been fermenting for a few days and I've noticed a black stringy thing floating on top. I pulled it out and it doesn't look like any mold or fungus I've seen. I'm very confused as to what it was. The mead doesn't smell bad or rotten. What could it be?

Solid string like thing? or bits that were clinging together?

I unfortunately didn't take any pics. When I got it out, I pulled it apart and it seemed like a small ball of string. Kinda like if you take a piece of string and roll it in between two fingers. It was like it had a center which looked like a balled up piece of string with the ends of strings hanging out the sides. All in all it was the size of my pinky fingernail. I noticed it in there for a couple days. It never noticeably got bigger. And even if I shook the mead up it would eventually float back to on top of the foam on the mead.

It may be just that, a ball of string maybe from one of the ingredients.

I mean, I have had a case where I found some plastic foil inside a brand new can of sardines!

I think that's what it is. There has been no other unidentifiable objects popping up in it. I feel like if it was mild or a fungus, there would be more. Thanks for the input

If you're not getting any off odors like something has gone sour or sulfuric or otherwise willing to bet it was a fluke and you're ok.
